Before The Petersons brought us these lovely Thomasville french provencial dresser and nightstand set to be painted in our classic black. They wanted some light distressing with the original hardware put back on for obvious reasons - they are gorgeous!

With the light distressing the gold and yellow pop through so nicely and really compliment the original hardware. My advice on these types of dressers is to always stay with the curvy frenchy pulls. I cannot think of a hardware switch out that would work better than these. One unique feature on this set is the slight division between the top three drawers and the bottom three drawers. The top ones are slightly set back and divided by some curvy wood detailing. This is called a chest on chest. Thanks Ann Marie!
This feature along with the curvy drawer fronts gives it so much dimension and depth.

That style of dresser is called a "Chest on Chest." I only know because I just did one as well.) Looks great!

I love the black! I just saw a set like that at the consignment store yesterday, but they wanted too much. Now that I've seen yours, maybe it was worth it???
I'm SOOO excited about the card catalog. I have been looking for one for YEARS. I'm an English teacher and I'm totally obsessed with libraries. I'd love to have one for my home and I'm so excited to see how yours comes out. Way to live my dream!

Very nice! The black really updates it so much and I agree with you about keeping the curvy Frenchy pulls. I can't wait to see your card catalog. That's a big project but I bet it'll be loads of fun. Have a good night, Melanie.

Wow. Love it.
Gorgeous! Best result I can imagine!
This is beautiful! I can't wait to see the old card catalog--lucky! I'd love one of those!
I love the black! I picked up 2 nightstands and the matching chest of drawers today for a steal ($40) for all 3 pieces. They are very similar to yours with the curvy frame and gold trim. I was thinking about going black or a peppercorn finish with it and spraying the hardware either silver or white. Now this gives me great ideas for what to do with this fantastic deal!
OMG
I have a friend who is so looking for a set like this. really I am the one out looking she just wants it LOl
She wants to use it in it's original finish but that black is gorgeous

You did a beautiful job! I remember a friend in junior high who had furniture just like your "before" pictures! That was a LONG time ago - and they were very much in style. Great update on some classic furniture!
So beautiful. I love makeovers on these french provencial pieces. Gorgeous work, as usual!
