One Thing Wednesday - Janet Hill Studios

Once again I am supposed to be revealing a hutch. Remember the one that turned out kinda purple and we had to go back and paint it again.

Yeah, well we had yet another mishap while installing the glass into one of the doors.

It broke.

It happens.

We are delayed.

But carrying on.

And will do the reveal tomorrow.

We have been pretty busy and I accidently stopped doing my weekly "One Thing Wednesday". You know . . . the day where I get to go pretend shopping.

Well I miss it.

So I am doing it today.

On Thursday.

But that is okay because it is pretend anyway.

I want these prints for a guest bathroom.

And these prints above a tiny white table with white / grey wooden chairs in the corner of a kitchen.

One Thing Wednesday - Vintage Butter Churn

It is Wednesday!

And Wednesdays are my pretend shopping days.
Every lady should have one.

So if I could buy one thing today it would be this Vintage Butter Churn found at Sarahanntiques.

I am loving those wooden paddles! And the squared glass jar with the round lid.
The rusty wheeled lid tops the jar off perfectly. I love all the levels of detail with the wooden handle matching the paddles. I would put this in my hutch for all to see!

But I would have to do it nonchalantly because I know if my little one got a look at it -

why she would turn it into a toy.

On a different note - I have had an overwhelming response to the vintage card catalog that we picked up a few weeks back.

I had several ask where we got it - I found it on KSL classifieds which is where I find most of my wonderful treasures. I called on it when it had been up for about half an hour. The gentleman was kind enough to hold it for us until the next evening. When we picked it up he said there were going to be several disappointed people that we showed up to get it!

I had several ask what we are going to do with it - we plan to strip it down and restain it in a dark walnut. I am still toying with the idea of painting it (I saw a black one here) but have not yet decided. It is currently sitting as a side table in our living room and I am sure it will be there for a bit as our projects get done as life slows down and I don't plan on that happening soon as we head into the holiday season.

One Thing Wednesday - Vintage Radio

It is Wednesday again so that means "One Thing Wednesday". Wahoo.

And I get showcase what I would buy today if I could pick one thing. Wahoo again!

Today I would pick up this little vintage radio from Retro 58.

This particular radio has tons of character that I would want sitting on an old desk or dresser in my home. The first being the speaker protected by the little metal shutters. Yep, I am loving those right now. Next is the handle on top for easy transportation. They were way ahead of themselves with this contraption - kind of an '80s boom box effect! The three little knobs below the face of the radio have some fun texture and give some nice depth to the front.
I love the discolored yellow face along with the red dial.
So I have gone ahead and jotted this little baby down on my wish list.

One Thing Wednesday - Vintage Alarm Clock

My mom always told me that every room should have a clock.

And mine do.

But I would not say that they are all as wonderful as this one found at Madampickay.

This one has a dark face with dirty white numbers. It also has a second hand which I always watch for when picking out a clock.
It is well worn which is another feature I look for when picking up vintage items.
Are the alarm options at the top just wonderful! They are spelled out in almost a card catalog fashion.

If I could buy one thing vintage today it would be this vintage alarm clock.

One Thing Wednesday - The Gardner Fan

It is Wednesday again and that means it is "One Thing Wednesday". For those of you who read our blog know that I have been wanting an antique fan and if you need a quick update you can read about it here.

I am learning if you throw something out there to the universe it might just come back to you because this has happened to me two times now and both treasures have come from Maryland which is many a miles from me. I received an email from Robyn at Whimages telling me that her Goodwill had a fan and she would be happy to pick it up and ship it off to me just at cost. So a few days later her son texted me a photo of the fan and I was so excited. It was just the color of blades I was looking for and the cage was to die for. I immediately told her I wanted it!Robbins and Myers vintage fans are rather popular and I am so happy to have one right in my home. The above picture is a view of the fan assembly room circa 1918 inside of the Robbins and Myers Company. I believe our fan pictured is probably circa 1940.

I love the dark base with the black clover shaped blades. It has hints of rust here and there which we all know adds character and a story. Thank you Robyn. We just love our "new" old fan. I am thinking sometime I need to take a trip out to Maryland. Man oh man they have some great treasuring hunting out there. We have certainly had some wonderful friends send a few our way thanks to the US Postal Service.

One Thing Wednesday - Gi-Norm-Ous Vintage Window

I saw this vintage window on KSL. And I wanted it. And I thought about it. And I really wanted it. And it was 8 feet by 6 feet.

And then I thought. What a hassle! What an ordeal to go pick up this window and put it on our flat bed trailer and get it home without anything breaking.

So I talked myself out of it. And then the next thing I knew I was texting the owner shown in the picture below. I offered him half of what he was asking and he accepted.

Then I thought wahoo! yipee! And then I thought how am I going to tell Mike what I bought. Remember it is 8 feet by 6 feet.

Over a weeks time the owner and I went back and forth exchanging emails about pick up options. And then he offered to deliver it to me. There really are good people in the world!

Guess what arrived yesterday!

He and Mike carried it in the house and he did what most people would do. I could see it on his face. I could see his thought process . . . "What in the world are you going to do with this in here?"

I knew. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. They set it in the kitchen and he left. It was so big we couldn't open the closets or the fridge. I explained my vision to Mike. It was not going to stay in the kitchen but it was staying in the house.

And this wonderful man called my husband trusted me and went with it.

One Thing Wednesday - School Map

It is "One Thing Wednesday".

Today I am eyeing this vintage drop down school map of The British Isles. I found this particular treasure on Etsy at

Ethanollie.

It has in fact already been purchased and I can see why.

The only criteria is the map would have to be of a place I lived or visited. It has been several years but I spent a few weeks traveling up and down The British Isles with the exception of Ireland. It is a trip that my 2 BFFs and I still talk and laugh about. Great memories. And this beautiful map would be a reminder!

This would look beautiful hanging above my desk. I would love some mini maps just like this to hang in my little one's room. A map of the good ole' USA and our state.

If you could buy one thing today discounting any budget constraints what would it be? But remember - has to be within reason. :)

One Thing Wednesday - Vintage Card Catalog

It is "One Thing Wednesday" and today I am eyeing this vintage card catalog.

This can be found at Junktiques on Etsy and this store is swimming in great vintage finds.

I love these old wooden and metal card catalogs used in old libraries. I especially like the dark wood on this one with the metal plates. These look great displayed on desks and add a vintage flair to any room. They also provide for height and dimension and can display additional items on the top surface.

The inside drawers are slightly green and provide a nice contrast against the warmth of the dark wood.
This one is pretty banged up but that adds character and a storyline. I have run across a few free standing card catalogs as well and if I had an empty wall I think it would be an amazing greeting piece.

I want to send out a big thank you for your comments and advice on my hunt for the vintage fan. I believe I have found one and cannot wait to tell the story.

One Thing Wednesday - Vintage Fan

I am starting a new themed Wednesday. It is called "One Thing Wednesday" and it will allow me to call out if I could buy one thing today (within reason) what it would be.

So here we go. . . .

If I could buy one thing today it would be an old antique fan. One with tons of charm and vintage character. I little bit of rust and a bent frame would work just fine for me.

This one would work just wonderfully and I found it at Topsy Design on Etsy.

The blades on this Emerson brass blade fan are unique in a clustered way. I love the shape and details. The color of the blade very much compliments the cage and the base.

I love this pedestal base with a few chips and some hints of rust.

I had a hard time just picking one today because I also love this one from The Spiced Pear.

I like the blades on this one as well. They are not as clustered and have a lighter texture and color.
My favorite thing about this fan is the cord. Isn't it fantastic! And my next favorite thing is the style of the cage. It almost looks like a sunburst! You can bet I will be watching and keeping my eye out for a vintage fan. And when I find it - I hope it looks like one of these two!
