Repurpose Story

This is an old hutch that we purchased a few years ago for fifty bucks. We had planned to refinish it in black and then sell it. It was quite simple with alot of straight lines.

Once it was complete we stood back and decided that this hutch would be a great entertainment center for our first flat screen tv that we got for Christmas. So Mike went to work on pulling off the doors and building a small platform for the tv to sit on as wellas a few cubbies for our dvr player and cable box.

We got some great use out of it. The above picture was taken in our old home. The next year we were itching for a flat screen for our main floor and found an old buffet that we finished in white. And it worked great for the space we had.

Then this past summer we moved and our new home had many different dimensions and so we needed to adjust. We have a huge wall with tall ceilings and putting the flat screen on just the buffet was no longer going to work. The proportions were not right any more. So we took the top piece of the old hutch and painted it from black to white and put it on the buffet.

And I think it all came together nicely over the last couple of years!

The Ole Pie Hutch - Before & After

What better way to head into the Thanksgiving weekend than with this cute little pie hutch. It has an extra tight latch for very safe keeping! It has the punctured holes at the back so that all of the lovely aroma makes its way to each of our noses. Okay, okay the holes are functional as well. They allow the moisture and heat to escape as the pies are cooling. I can see it now . . . apple, cherry tart, peach, and maybe rhubarb pies all nestled in this little cabinet. It is a sweet little thing and it sure looks pur-dey in white.

The Emmaline Hutch - Before & After

We picked up this beautiful french hutch a few months back and finished it in our vintage white. Because french just says white in this case. We pulled the metal lattice from the glass. I always like a clear view of vintage finds and treasures or family pictures that are displayed on the shelves.

This hutch can be seen The Old Flamingo in Salt Lake City. And a quick thanks for the continued support and for our loyal friends and blog visitors who have taken them time to stop by. Hutch, Dresser, and The Flu Bug

We have had the flu bug. And it has hit our little one the hardest. Fevers, coughs, sore throat, red noses and on and on. Please spring get here soon and away with the flu season. We have had enough. Amidst all of the sneezing and watery eyes we have finished a few projects. I have alot of "after" shots to take tonight but here are a few sneak peaks. This huge gi-normous hutch has been painted in a slight cream color and we are still working on hardware options.
This little dresser is for Baby Cash - my sweet two month old nephew. It was finished in the same cream color as the hutch and we have added new hardware. I cannot wait to reveal the after shots.

Plus we met with a client last night and have a beautiful makeover for her coming up. She found a gorgeous dresser for her bedroom with absolutely amazing details. It is stunning.

Look What I Found

While perusing the KSL ads yesterday I came upon this beauty.

I just couldn't believe my eyes.

Look at the size of this lovely!

The seller explained it is a bookcase from an orphanage in California.

And then I wondered what was the story to get it to Utah.

The price was listed at $3,000.

And because I do not have $3,000 to spend on such a beautiful piece

and

because I don't even have a wall big enough to fit a piece like this

I

just graciously sent them an email and told them how fond I was of their treasure

and

although I could not afford it at this time I was admiring it from afar.

Within a few hours it was gone.

No longer listed.

Sold.

The Dreamy Canning Cupboard

Stop what you are doing and look at this beauty.

Can you even believe your eyes!

I had a reader send me pictures of this cupboard containing 36 drawers.

She had somewhat described it to me and talked approximate dimensions.

When I opened the email that included pictures which came the next day I heard my thoughts out loud. . .

"oh

my

gosh".

This is a family piece and her aunt drove it down to her from Washington.

Family pieces make things so endearing and lovely.

She is debating what she wants to do with it.

There is some damage that needs to be repaired for structural stability.

Cosmetically I think the few chipped drawers add character and appeal.

I plan to continue working with her to determine what will be the best approach on this piece. I was so anxious to share it with you all so I had to post the pictures today.

I love it that much. I wish it were mine.

The Amiyah Hutch - Before & After

BeforeThis is a 1967 Thomasville hutch we found and we are sure happy that we did. It has many straight lines and clean cuts. It has a strong chunky base with four doors instead of the typical three. The top has four doors which is a bit unusual as well.

After

We painted it in my favorite vintage white and lightly distressed it.
We added new oil rubbed bronze hardware which is my favorite on our vintage white. And this is a new style that I found recently and I am swooning over the bowed pulls with the round end caps.
The majority of the hutches that we have refinished either have two doors that open on the sides or one in the middle which causes alot of reaching around. This hutch has four doors with three separate compartments. The two middle doors open to one section and the side doors have separate compartments.
The bottom section has some nice wood detailing. Behind the doors on the left are three drawers which is a nice organizing feature. Behind the doors on the right is one shelf.
The two middle doors are contoured and sit slightly in front of the two side doors.

I would be lying if I said I didnt try to figure to put this hutch in our master bedroom. One day soon I will have the perfect hutch in our bedroom. Frankly I would be fine having some type of hutch in each and every bedroom. I think they are a great way to stay organized and have extra storage.

Up next is an old Thomasville buffet that we have converted to a tv stand. It is a beauty and and has helped with a transformation I have been wanting to complete for some time.

Monday is right around the corner and the day I start my new job. It was a rough farewell for me yesterday as I parted ways with friends and co-workers. The change I have feared is upon me and actually already happening. But it is good. It is a blessing.
