The Cutler Dresser Set Part 1 - Custom Refinish Before & After

Don't forget to enter our
Our winner will be announced on Sunday March 27th!

Before One of our wonderful clients referred us to her sister-in-law who wanted to update her Broyhill dresser set and king size bed. I was excited to see the warmth of the dark wood and then was happy of course when she picked my favorite color - white! This stain pops so magically against the white.

After
The white finish gives it a nice clean crisp look. We updated the hardware with decorative knobs and the hood cup pulls.
I often hear from readers that they cannot believe the difference a coat of paint can make and I cannot agree with them more. It really converts a piece that you have had around a while into something brand new. It can change the look and feel to an entire room.
I am teasing you with the nightstands and will be posting both the long and tall dressers in the next couple of days.
They were debating on re-attaching the mirror to the long dresser or hanging it directly on the wall. Or perhaps it ended up in another room altogether. Dresser mirrors really are not just for dressers - they are so functional in many ways.

Stay close for the reveal of the rest of their set. We are also working on a long dresser, mirror, and nightstand for their sweet girls.

And speaking of girls we just finished a very huge dresser for our girls as well. I am so happy with the results! And the extra storage will be divine!

Before
After
We just refinished this complete queen / full five piece bedset in our classic black. It has a chunky look with beadboard on the drawers and crowned with an umbrella wood detail on each top drawer. We have replaced all of the hardware with oil rubbed bronze knobs and pulls. As you can see through comparing the before and after pictures we have filled in the flower detail design. We find alot of pieces with these whether they are floral or wheat but I think that they somewhat date the piece and always opt to fill them in for a more clean crisp look.

Before

After

When we first saw the set the first thing that caught my attention was the detail on the drawers. I love the distressed beadboard style and I knew once we got some paint in those crevices that the detail would start popping. And I think it really did!

BeforeThis little nightstand provides two more drawers for extra storage. I always like the chunky molding at the bottom of dressers. It gives such a solid base for the rest of the piece.

Before After As you can see we made a few cosmetic changes to the headboard. Mike filled in the flower details plus he also added extra backing so you can only see the wall between the posts on the end. I think that both of these changes are a huge improvement and really updates the look.

Before We made a few cosmetic changes on the mirror as well. We filled in the flower detail and pulled off the shelves. I have to admit I am not a fan of shelves on the frame of a mirror. I think it is very distracting and takes away from the space that a mirror can create. This new mirror is going to look beautiful placed above the nine drawer dresser. Once again I enjoy seeing the beadboard running down the sides! Can never have enough of that stuff!

I want to quickly thank all of my blogging friends for the comments they left concerning the nasty email I received about painting furniture. I was overwhelmed with support and just cannot say thank you enough! You are all wonderful!

The Aidan Dresser Set - Before & After

Dimensions:
Dresser: 75" Wide . 31" Tall . 19.5" Deep
Nightstand: 28" Wide . 23.5" Tall . 17" Deep
Mirror: 36.5" Wide . 56" Tall
Before
AfterOh goodness I love how this bedroom set turned out! This dresser is very well built and solid wood. The dresser has six drawers and three more drawers hidden behind two doors. Each drawer has wood features and the top is trimmed with a lovely unique wood design.
It has chunky molding around the bottom and sits up on round legs.
I love the twisted posts at each end which gives it a very elegant look. The large dresser has the posts on the sides as well which provides a polished profile. We have replaced the original handles with brushed nickel pulls although the flash in the pictures makes them look golden.
This mirror is gi-normous! It is hard to tell from this picture its true size. I love the iron detail at the top which matches the new hardware we installed. I also want to point out the beautiful curved wood design at the top. It really crowns the mirror and will crown the whole dresser set.

Today Mike is working on restoring an old, old antique rocking chair. We also have six custom chairs to be restored. The client has requested they all be painted in the classic black and slightly distressed. However, she is holding one out that is shaped different and we are painting that one in a robin egg blue. Great idea, huh!
