The Hardy Hall Tree - Before & After

Happy New Year!
2 zero 1 one
is here.

And now moving on to our first piece of the new year - this hall tree. I am so in love with it. Everything about it.

Before
After
We have some great friends who gave us this hall tree that they were no longer using. I immediately thought grey. Oh yes - we should use grey more often. We pulled the mirror out and replaced it with heavily distressed white beadboard. I had hoped by doing this the grey would pop with the contrast. And I believe that happened.
The cowboy hat pictured was my paternal grandfather's. He was a farmer and had several cowboy hats. This is the one I ended up with and have had with me for quite some time now. And whenever I stop to gaze at it I remember his example of hard work. I recall greeting him at dusk when he finally finished his day that started early that morning. I miss him. I like the look of the paneled back next to the beadboard. It provides different levels of texture.
The bench opens and provides for some great storage. It is hard to believe the holidays have come and gone. I have to admit that January is not one of my favorite months as it is long and very cold here. However, unlike most mundane years January is going to call for some big changes for me personally. And honestly, change is not easy. I tend to like to keep things in the comfortable zone. I am anxious to see how everything plays out.

Melanie- It is gorgeous. I love it and it looks nothing like the original. And the hat? What a perfect tribute to have that hanging there. I have two of my father's old hats too...and he was a hard-working man that put in long, long days until he got Parkinsons.

No mirror? But how will you check your hair on the way out the door?>) Hugs-Diana

Grey was the perfect choice, Melanie! What a wonderful transformation with the white beadboard. I especially love your grandfather's hat hanging there. How special to have that loving remembrance of him. I'm with you on change. I struggle with it but am trying to learn to be a little more flexible. Not easy because I am a creature of habit. Have a great week and stay warm!

The grey is great and just subtle enough to allow you to see the beadboard back! Great job....embrace the change; it sounds like it's coming whether you want it to or not.

Love the makeover. It looks outstanding. I hope that the changes in your life will make you stronger! Stepping out of our comfort zones makes us stretch the muscles we don't use when we are comfortable, and even causes some pain, but we do grow stronger from it!! :-) Enjoyed your post.

Gorgeous, simply gorgeous. I love hall trees to begin with. And grey? Perfect! I think grey should be this year's color (rather than Honeysuckle pink).

Just beautiful. Would love for you to stop by this weekend and link up to Passion for Paint!
