Classic Black Book Cabinet

Before
I mentioned that my sister loves books. And she loves to display them and keep them safe in sweet book cases just like this one. And we found this particular one for a screaming deal (it is a Bassett) and she wanted it painted in the classic black to match her basement family room.

After
This piece has two felt lined drawers on top and the bottom!
The lines on this cabinet are very simple and straight - very mission style. The lead glass on the doors provides an old age feel and gives extra depth.
The original hardware was super chunky so we opted for something a bit lighter so as not to take away from the lead glass doors and books and pictures that will be displayed on the shelving.
These pieces are so versatile and can be used in so many different rooms in a home. The little back splash gives the cabinet a wee bit more height and a finished look.
I wish I could get my hands on a few more of these. They are not a traditional hutch and so much more glamorous than just a standard bookshelf. You can bet I will be keeping my eyes open for the next one that comes along!

Up next . . . . we are putting the finishing touches on a dining set finished in the classic black. It will be available to be purchased by the end of the week. We are also working on an old teacher's chair that we are doing in a fun Restoration Hardware grey / green color. I cannot wait to show the reveal of this piece!

Happy Wednesday!

I really like how it lost the mission style look just by changing color and hardware! Great job! Maybe I won't pass up mission style furniture when I see it for sale!!

I know that we've been through a lot together, and that's why I can be honest about this...plus, it's not you, it's your sister. I wouldn't have painted that piece. Promise you'll still talk to me after this?

Yes Katie! I will still talk to you! The stain on the piece did not match her cherry wood that was also in her basement. It would have looked orange. However, I appreciate your honesty and hope we will always be friends :)

(My jaw has dropped) So gorgeous! I have never seen a bookcase like that before! That has to be one of my favorites! Your sister is so lucky!!

I have a hard time painting over a good finish too, however, if it isn't a sentimental(antique)piece, make it what you want it to be. Sounds like it would have stuck out like a sore thumb as it was. I think it's beautiful.
