After we determined where we were moving in May I was on the hunt for some tall bar stools. The thirty inch kind which I found was going to take some time. It took about five weeks and then I spotted these for $15 a piece and was thrilled that I could get what I wanted instead of paying $150 a piece. As you have noticed I RARELY purchase anything brand new. We looked at new barstools but I just couldn't bring myself to do it! The wonderful thing about taking something old and creating something new is you have something that is just yours because chances are no one is going to have a true replica.
We painted these my favorite white which is the Benjamin Moore Aura paint in the color "Frostine". With the usual distressing and recovering the seat covers this is how they cleaned up. One project we will be working on soon is putting black beadboard on the front of the bar. That is just one of the many I have on my to do list.
I already had in mind the fabric I wanted which I quickly found. I imgined a black toile to compliment the splashes of black we have in our kitchen as well as our family room. I think it matches the white paint nicely and provides a clean fresh look. I need to mention here really quickly that I am having so many problems with Blogger lately. I cannot get things to align and center. I am consistently getting additional spacing that I have not entered and just the editing of my final post is time consuming and frustrating! Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? UUgghh. Currently I cannot get my text to center. Lovely!

OMGosh I love these...You have such an amazing eye...I would have looked at the before condition and moved on...but the after *swoon* makes me wish the wee one was old enough for us to have stools at the breakfast bar already....I totally adore the fabric and look forward to seeing them against the black beadboard.
Blessings Kelsie
Nice job, love what you did to them...

So beautiful! I want to sit on one and eat cookies with Faith & Brooklyn soon. xox
These look great! I think they would be gorgeous in black too...but that's only cause it would match my other furniture. Mumzie
Simply divine! I bet your new home is a complete doll house!
Awesome they look great. I hate wasting $$ on new too!
Think I'll have to do this to our old bar stools! Love the fabric!
Beautiful job....TFS
These look great. I am trying to get motivated to redo some barstools of my own. I did them red years ago and now I want them green. The original owners from the early 70s left them behind. I am the 3rd owner of the house and barstools 40 yrs later.
Oh those stools look amazing! They don't look anything like the 'before' !! Looks like you got your hardwood floors?! Congrats!! It's one of my 'dream home' wishes :)

Again, Melanie, you have totally inspired me. I have been collecting a small, but growing collection of furniture to try my hand at painting. Your bar stools are beautiful and I just bought a beautiful armchair to refinish exactly the same way. I got home from church with big plans to begin and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove the chair cushion so I can recover it. Help! Is there a trick to this?

These are fabulous. I recently recovered some bar stools, but then immediately after my kids got to them. I highly recommend scotch guard. haha. I found you on the primitive and proper linky party.
Stunning - they went from a 5 to a 10 in one day! Your kitchen is really gorgeous - thanks for sharing it with all of us at Flaunt It Friday's party!
