BeforeThis is a Thomasville buffet from the late 1960s. We have a funny little spot in a small family room on our main floor that we have been wanting to fill with a fun piece to display our tv. This is what we found and how we used it.
After
It is somewhat of cubby hole that I would change if we did not have plans to move but I think that this alternative works nicely in the meantime. We painted it my favorite white, distressed it, and added my most recent hardware find which actually matches the hardware that we also placed on the Amiyah Hutch.
The buffet has several clean lines and is quite simple. The piece sits up on the sweet legs and allows me the option of placing baskets underneath for extra storage.
Mike converted one of the drawer fronts into a drop down door to house our cable/dvr box. I always prefer to have this type of electronic equipment in a place that can be easily hidden and easily accessible. Waaaa - laaaa! This works out perfectly!
These old pieces are so versatile and when we eventually move it can be used in so many different ways if we choose not to use it to display the tv. I am so happy to have this part of this room finished. It has been one that I have wanted to work on for quite some time and I am so happy with the piece we found and how it completes our room.
We are currently debating on what piece we want to finish next so I suppose it wil be a surprise for all of us!

Once again, you and Mike did it again! I like how you got rid of the round pulls and the drawer pulls. It makes my wheels start turning!! Thanks for the inspiration!!
Melanie that is so beautiful and it is perfect! What a cozy little spot and it fits so nicely! Great idea to convert one of the drawers too! Your little corner there is wonderful!

It's beautiful, Melanie! How perfect it is in your spot. It was meant to be! I'm with you on hiding the electronics as much as possible and your husband did a great job with that. You both did a beautiful job. I hope your week is going well with your new job!

That's beautiful. What a perfect piece for that odd little space. Great job!
This is fantastic! I'd love to see a tutorial on how to make the drop-down drawers. We've attempted it with no luck.
And putting a dresser in that raised nook is fantastic. So unexpected. So beautiful!
Melanie -- I've been debating on working with such a piece for an area in our living area and you have done it my friend with grand style -- so I can't wait to get started; I'm not necessarily using it how you did, but I need to replace a desk that is "too" small for the area it is now in. So many ideas -- thanks for doing this in such a unique way; Terri www.morningdewdrops.typepad.com

This looks really great. I really don't like the typical glass tv stands and this is a great alterative. Good eye because the original piece looked SO dated. The sanded edges make the piece look phenomenal in the space.
This looks so lovely. I look forward to you stopping by at My Dream Canvas:-)
Hi Melanie! Oh, how pretty this piece is. It looks perfect in that spot and the drop down front on the drawer is genius! Another reason I love your Lucille piece - Lucille is my mother's name ! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
This is absolutely lovely, you did a fabulous job. And I agree, the older pieces seem to be so much more versatile.
