The Dawson Buffet - Custom Refinish Before & After

Before Ahhh - nothing like a beautiful buffet I tell ya! And this one is lovely. We posted before pictures and offered it up as a custom refinish and had several responses so thank you to everyone! A long time follower and new friend Mirien jumped on it first. She sent pictures of the space it would occupy and we talked colors and landed on this lovely red.

After Remember how I said whoever drove away with this I would be green with envy? Well it came true. Although I was not there when she picked it up I took one last look at it before I left yesterday morning and said my good byes. This little wood design sits in the middle of the top drawer. It mimics the detail around each of the wooden knobs. Notice the levels of details around the drawers and the wood border just below the table top. There was no need to change out the hardware because the original wooden knobs were a huge compliment to the whole design and theme of the piece.
The base of the dresser has nice wood molding as well as a curvy vintage skirt. And then the feet! Could they be better? I think not.
We hope Mirien and her family enjoy the newest addition to their living room. I have to mention that this will be sitting next to a beautiful upright piano. Have I mentioned I want one of those? I do. I want an upright piano along with a parlor, a wrap around porch, a breeze way, and house filled with wood floors and high ceilings.
BUT
I am getting way off track here.

So are you ready for the big day? The other night I was running around baking cookies, straightening up, doing laundry and my little one told me to just lay down and think about sugarplums. I looked at her innocent face and deep into her blue eyes and thought about all that was waiting for me to get done and said
"lets do it".
She grabbed a blanket and we snuggled up together on her bedroom floor and did just that.

that is just beautiful! love the color and the details! but what is really special about this post is that moment you shared with your daughter to just sit and think about sugarplums. it's like stopping to smell the roses. we all do need a reminder to pause, slow down, and enjoy this magical season. thank goodness she was able to remind you to do just that.

Oh...did you shed a secret tear when it left? Did you come home and feel like a part of you was missing? sigh...I get it...

I need to do that take a blanket and lay down trick...trouble is that at this age I might never wake up!

How precious of your "baby" to want you to do that with her...that is the best present of all, isn't it? Hugs-Diana

Melanie--I LOVE it! It makes me smile everytime I walk by the room. I need to do a little re-arranging and decorating--I'll send you a picture soon! You and Mike did such a great job (BTW, he was so nice when I picked up the buffet--you both have been a pleasure to work with.) Thanks so much! Oh, and the reminder to slow down and savor this time with your children? I really need to remember that.

I love old buffets. Your client is a lucky girl! How sweet is your daughter to say that...out of the mouths of babes. There is a lot of wisdom in her advice. Merry Christmas, my friend!

Your buffet is gorgeous, Melanie. What a fun color and the detail is amazing. You did another beautiful transformation. Your daughter sounds precious. How smart she is already! She knows to slow down and appreciate the little things in life.

The buffet is a beauty, Melanie. I really want another buffet, but this cottage is just way too tiny for any more "stuff"!

I love the insight shared by your little one!!! I think children help us stay on track with what's really important.

Thanks for faithfully joining my party. I look forward to your projects each week.

Please be sure to come by and enter my fantastic year-end giveaway. Click the picture in my sidebar for details.

Blessings and a very Merry Christmas!

I really love the color, it's fittingly bold for that great piece. Good choice to leave the original hardware, it gives a great authentic vibe to the update. I featured you today on my favorite things :)
