The Paisley Door - Custom Refinish Before & After

Before My sister in law brought us this old door she found to have refinished to hang behind her little girl's bed. It was already somewhat of a pink color but the paint was really chippy so we matched a new pink that is in her new big girl quilt and it turned out amazing.

After
It is such a soft pink that I set it next to this white dresser to better see the contrast. It really is a delicate color and will work perfectly in her room. Mike cleaned up the original door knob and all of the original hinges. They are squeaky clean and so shiny! This door will work so well behind a bed because of its size. It is quite narrow and not too tall. Nicole plans to put pictures in the panels and perhaps add knobs or hooks to display Paisley's treasures.
These old paneled doors have such great character. One day I want to have a home with all old doors (that open and shut perfectly!) that are mismatched and with door knobs that are each different and unique. Some day. I think these old doors have so many great uses in home decor. They can be converted to headboards, chalkboards, repurposed into benches, or just leaning against a wall with a wreath hanging from it.

We hope little Paisley enjoys this fun addition to her big girl room.

We also hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving feast with family and friends. My mom and two sisters tried to talk me into starting the Black Friday festivities with them at nine o'clock this evening and I tried and tried to want to adventure out but I just couldn't do it! The thought of cat fights and rushing crowds was more anxiety than I wanted to deal with so as I lay my sleepy head on my pillow this evening I wish them all the best! I hope everyone shopping through the night will be kind and thoughtful. Remember to play fair and show patience. And may the stores never run out of what you are looking for! Enough said. Love you all!

Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday weekend.

That door looks great. I'm glad you put it by the white cabinet..because on its own it does look white until you see it next to something. Great looking door!

I'm with you- I am not fighting the crowds to save a dollar! Hugs- Diana

This turned out great! The General Store in Layton has had a great selection of these old paneled doors for $40/each, which I thought was a good price. I have one in my bedroom, just for show. My dh wanted to know what it was *for*, (silly man). I told him it led to Narnia! :-)

This is beautiful! I love the soft pink. I'm getting ready to start on an old door too. I'm pretty excited, the door has great history. I've had it in my shed for 10 years, waiting for some love. I've felt inspired by all of you creative bloggers to bring her out and fix her up.

Thanks for sharing this lovely door!

So pretty!

I can never brave the crazy crowds, either - the rudeness and rushing just get to me!

it will look great behind a bed- especially with the pink peaking through! just make sure it is sealed really well as you wouldn't want any old lead paint chipping off and being ingested or breathed in while she sleeps. as long as it is poly'ed it will be fine. sorry- the mom in me had to say that! :)

Yes, the soft pink is perfect for a girl's room. The door knob and plate really shine now.

This post makes me kinda sad that we threw all of our old doors away when we remodeled our house! (Some of them were really bad), but this is a very cute idea. At the time, we were remodeling entirely for a "new" feel, and since then, I've been trying to get more of the "aged" feel back in it! :)
