The Gardner Christmas Mantel

Layla over at The Lettered Cottage is having a Christmas mantel link up party today and I just had to be a part of it! Although our fireplace and mantle is very very simple and sits in the corner of our living room I tried to work with the space and elements that I had.
Keeping with the simplicity of our room I added some white lights to some garland that includes rusty old stars and black berries that we used at our wedding reception a few years back. I made the little banner just beneath the mantel with some old paper that Mike uses to wrap and protect drawers while painting.Next up I found this old iron headboard on KSL for a great price and it was located right near my neighborhood which made it even more appealing! Because we do not actually use this fireplace I was safe to lean it against the wall and hang three red pottery barn stockings from it.
If you follow our blog you have already read about the three trees I made out of old book pages. I have had a few emails asking how I made the trees and will be demonstrating just how I did it on Studio 5 a week from today. So hang tight! I have also posted about the wreath made out of old book pages but because it sits right above the mantel I wanted to display how it all came together.
And there you have it. The Gardner Christmas Mantel.
Certainly nothing fancy but it
displays all of our favorite elements.

I am linking to the parties on my sidebar and

I love your fireplace - the shelf above the mantel is very unique! When I saw the little thumbnail pic I thought that was a garden gate at first. It looks great.

I'm slowly starting to take over my boyfriend's mantle because they're so fun to decorate (starting with a Christmas wreath) I love book wreaths like yours though, and might just have to make an "all season" one to hang above his mantle because yours looks so good!
