The Kimball Antique Desk - Custom Refinish Before & After

This desk was brought to us by this family. They are dynamic, talented, and most importantly loving. Although they may look different from each other they were meant to be together. Just ask anyone who knows them! Allison has kept an online journal of their journey as their family has grown over the years. She is an amazing photographer, mother, and friend. This desk originally belonged to Allison's great grandfather. You can see in the before pictures that it has been used quite a bit. Which is why I like it.
It has a curvy base and sits up on small french style legs.
Back in the day furniture always had keyholes and locks.
After much deliberation and trying on different types of hardware Allison opted to stay with the original dangly pulls. I think she choose correctly. This old desk has so much character and the original hardware accents it nicely. We were missing a few pieces so we scrounged through our old hardware and came up with these chunky twisty knobs. That top drawer deliberately hangs forward and has more rounded corners so the different hardware accents it wonderfully.
Once inside the desk you can see five organizer compartments and still another drawer. The little knob on it was also found as we rummaged through our older hardware.
We painted the inside hinges so they are hardly noticeable at all. We actually painted them and baked them in the oven so the finish would not chip. We hope the Kimball family is happy with their "new" desk. And that it remains in the family for many more days to come!
