A Grandfather's Rocking Chair - Custom Refinish Before & After

Before After
This huge chunky rocking chair from 1974 belongs to the grandfather of my good friend Allison Kimball. She said it is the only chair he will sit in. He has been quite ill lately and just home from the hospital for a few weeks. When Mike dropped the chair off at his home he said he slowly made his way to the chair. I think he was very happy to have it back! I have a few wonderful rocking chairs of my own but I have never seen such a big chunky chair before. I do not think the pictures illustrate its size.
All of the spindles are super chunky! Even the vertical wood detail going up the back.
I hope Allison's grandfather rests comfortably in his newly refinished chair and has more days of good health ahead of him.

Happy Monday!

He is so happy to have his chair back and is thrilled that Mike was able to fix some of the loose parts. Thank you.

Melanie- You are a good soul to paint that chair and make it nice for him. I hope he is well enough to enjoy it. Someone I know had one of those huge rockers too. I always said it was a man's chair because it was too big for me to feel comfortable in it...and I am no small fry...(got that way eating large fries)>) You did a great job, my friend. Hugs to you! WoW!!! Good job! I own that exact chair, bought in the late
70's, when we were expecting our 1st son. I never wanted to get rid of it, because I rocked the boys in it. Thanks for the idea, I am going to paint it : )
What paint did you use? I love how yours turned out.

The rocking chair looked good before, but it looks great now!! It really makes a statement in black, and the distressing gives it some nice patina and character.

I'm sure Allison's grandfather will enjoy many hours rocking in his fab "new" chair :-)
