Untouched

I received an email from someone who called herself Gina. Gina asked me if we had anything that had been "untouched". Something . . in her words . . that had not been ruined by paint, sanding, and new hardware. I do not believe that her email was geniune nor do I believe her name was Gina. I believe her message was meant to be unkind. I draw my conclusion because when I tried to respond to her in a very friendly manner my email was rejected. She did not want to hear my response.
This cabinet is absolutely beautiful! There is not even a scratch on it. The glass is ALL beveled and it lights up with just the brush of a fingertip. It has a beadboard backing and has been finished in a brown / black glaze.
And so friends, there you have it. A piece that is going to a new home untouched. We certainly recognize when a piece is beautiful in its current state. We do not just throw paint on everything.

This is beautiful untouched!! I have been looking for something just like this! With glass doors on top and solid doors on bottom!

Glad you left it like this!

I sure do not understand people and I will leave it at that. Anyway, I love this as well! What a beautiful solid piece that looks great as is or in any other color that the owner would like. To each his own!

You guys are amazing!

What is wrong with some people?

That piece is so pretty!

I'm sorry too. Can't people just mind their p's and q's?

You are doing so much for the environment as well as the new up and coming trend to have the painted look. Don't lose sight of that. You should be so proud of yourselves by saving trees and giving these broken down pieces a new loving home like they once had.

This is a pretty piece.

What a turkey! Why does she care if you paint something or not? If she doesn't like what she sees, there is that little "X" up in her right hand corner that she can click and go somewhere else.

Seriously... I love what you guys do. The end result is always beautiful and you are giving a new life to a piece of furniture.

wierd. I know some people like that. kind of old school. whoever she is, she has a mullet. :)

Boy, people get their panties in a wad over the strangest things. What does she care if you paint furniture? I was one who always believed the natural wood liked nicer. HA! I've painted about 5 things in the past couple months.

Your work is beautiful.

It kind of stings doesn't it? I received one a month or more ago trashing my window treatments and then telling me not to decorate my radiator covers. Funny thing, my pictures were in a post I did of a review of the Sex and the City 2 apartments that I am sure were professionally decorated. Carrie's radiator had stuff setting on it much like mine! I wanted to write "her" back but like you the email didn't work. Don't you wonder about people who have nothing better to do than to attack others they don't even know. Wow. Sad. I still have my window treatments and I'm totally over them but sometimes we can't have everything at once. Our homes are works in progress. Too bad some people don't get that.
I love what you do and I paint furniture also so she wouldn't like my stuff any better. :)
Keep doing what you do. It's all stunning.

How crummy! I cant believe people waste time insulting others. "If you dont have something nice to say..." I didnt know you could reject emails either.

For what it is worth I love all your pieces. Especially this one, gorgeous!

Melanie, it would be easy for me to tell you to just ignore them, they're just sour grapes, but for some reason the negative things we hear have such a big impact on us and seem to linger in our minds. I love what you do and am so inspired by your pieces (painted or not). Keep up the good work.

This is beautiful! It matches my coffee tables, too bad it has a new home. I used to think that the natural look was pretty, but I do tend to follow trends, and I am currently loving the painted look. Regardless, why do people have to come to YOUR blog and insult you? Weird.

Sorry you got that negative comment. Some people just amaze me at what they sit around and think of doing to annoy people. Sad, isn't it? Just don't let it upset you. I love all your painted pieces. They look so beautiful. Each to their own, I guess. Love & blessings from NC!

Oh, what an old hag 'Gina' is! Even us furniture painters know that not everything 'should' be painted. My parents would hang me if I painted the family heirlooms, and besides, I coulnd'/wouldn't do it anyway. But I reckon that if it has no sentimental value to anyone involved, it is fair game to 'chuck some paint on it' lol.

Seriously? Well i think this "Gina" is just jealous! I mean has she not heard of the saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". Sorry someone had to be so rude!

Melanie...you do beautiful work! It's unfortunate people have to be so hurtful and mean. I guess they have too much time on their hands to send such an email! I had the same thign happen to me this week. Keep up your beautiful work. I love seeing all your new furniture!

I have a retired neighbor who was in the furniture business, he could not believe I was painting furniture - he thought I was ruining it! The other day, he stopped by, gave me the 1,2 about how beautiful the wood was natural, and then he told me he kinda liked the painted furniture - sigh!

I can't imagine being ugly to someone who takes the time to show the work they do. Some people are rude and thoughtless.

I believe in keeping some furniture in it's original state. If it looks like it might someday be an antique, then keep it in the original form. Fortunately, we have people who take pieces that are damaged and no matter what repairs are made would still look like repaired furniture and paint them to make them beautiful.

Thank you for salvaging many of piece that would end up in the dump and making them loveable again.

You make pieces beautiful again, and you should be proud of it! It's the best kind of recycling.

KSL is so wonderful, but the anonymity it provides gives people an outlet to be rude without consequence. I received several emails as a dog breeder calling me a puppy mill and saying I mistreated my dogs. I invited each one to meet me and my dogs personally. Not one ever wrote back.
Your work is lovely. Most wood is lacquered or stained- why should paint be villified? I adore my "Frosted" bedroom set!!! :)

I agree with everyone above. To each his own, but there's no need to offer unsolicited (and rude) advice. I'm sorry!

You guys do amazing work. Don't let the rude comments get you down!

This is a beautiful piece!! It takes a few days of taking that first nasty comment/email and mulling it over to realize the next time one comes along, you should just delete before reading it! :) Been there, got that t shirt...you guys are amazing!! Let's just vow not to read that junk anymore! -shaunna :)
