The Hoffman High Chair - Custom Refinish Before & After

BeforeThis high chair is for a couple of sweet little girls. It was originally used by their grandmother when she was feeding their mom. I love projects like this where we take something that is sentimental and restore it so it can be used today! Love it!

After
Our client picked a Benjamin Moore paint called Spanish Red. It is such a nice soft red. Not too vibrant and not too orange or purple.
This little chair is a bundle of spindles! Spindles add so much dimension and all of the distressing made the levels of detail pop.
The nice warmth of the brown finish compliments the paint wonderfully. Don't you just love the wooden tray! Everything is so plastic nowadays!
You don't see anything like this much anymore. The metal glides to insert the tray.
We hope this chair sees many more babies!

I need to report on our ginormous window. I decided late last night I need to do a bit of paint touch ups. I cannot wait for the reveal!

Happy Thursday!

I am linking to the parties on my sidebar.

  1. It turned out so lovely in that shade of red. You're so right - everything is made so cheaply these days. That's why I love working with vintage and antique furniture!

  2. Sooo pretty! I have that same high chair. It belonged to my husband's family, and the tray was lost years ago. I repainted it a soft fern green last summer, but have never found a place for it. Now I want to distress and put some stain over it to use it somewhere!

  3. Oh, wow! I love, love, love it! I've really been getting into red lately and would love to paint some of my finds red. It just needs to cool off a little more before I can get outside to sand. Plus, I need to ditch this cold I've got. Anyway, I love all of those spindles and they just look great in their new red clothes!!

  4. Melanie- That is exactly the high chair I had when my kids were growing up- Jenny Lind style. I love the red paint on it. I had painted my own white and sold it before we moved to FL many years ago. Now I wish I had kept it for my grandchildren...*sigh*

I can't wait to see what you do with that window...but whatever it is...hurry up, will ya? The suspense is driving me crazy (and I haven't far to go)>) Diana

  5. I used to have a Jenny Lind high chair just like that...it went with the matching cradle & crib. Sure wish I still had all of those pieces...

    Nice job!

  6. I love it! You're right, that's just the perfect red. Very Pottery Barn. So glad it's freshened up for a new generation and on into the future.

  7. I LOVE IT!! I love RED like you love WHITE!! I'm dying to know how you prep all those spindles though. What's your process? I've got some I need to do, but I keep putting it off because I can't use the sander on them and I've never used stripper so I don't know how.
