The Caroline Dresser - Before and After

I have been super excited to paint this little dresser slash side table for Faith's room. This dresser was "Built by John" and comes from the 1930s. It has some great detail which made it hard to paint because it has such a unique look to it already.

But we bit the bullet and gave it a special make over. I debated back and forth between white paint and a red paint. I am very happy with my choice.

We kept the original hardware to keep the antique feel and age on it. I did not want any updates on this one! Although the paint covered up part of the detail I believe the sand throughs and distressing highlighted the wood designs on the outer sides and around the cute feet of the dresser.

I am in love with this piece! And so happy with the results. Faith's room is about complete. I am still playing with pictures to put on the walls and another night table. But it is coming together.

Currently Mike is working on another dresser. It has a bit of a vintage feel to it as well. Check back to see it!

    Good choice on the white tho I would have debated on it too. Love how you've brought out the wonderful detail and the distressing looks great.

    What a lovely makeover! The dresser has such beautiful lines and they seem to be so much more obvious with the antique white paint. Beautiful!

    Looove it, I've always loved the cottage look, and slowly have been going white. I so enjoy the feeling of peace that comes over me when I walk in the door of my sweet little cottage.     I'm sorry, but you absolutely ruined this piece. All that gorgeous detailing buried under paint -- so sad. I generally like painted furniture, but there's a certain level of workmanship that you gotta respect, since you can't really get those kinds of items today. Maybe you don't have the skill or desire to restore it -- but you should leave it for someone who does then, rather than spoiling it.

    Well I dont think it's ruined.. but I do have to wonder if the next generation of us DIY peeps will be using stripper to get off all the white paint we put on everything..These old dressers have stood the test of time.. they're still here while alot of the new particle board furniture is already in the landfill...I love the look of distressed white and black myself.. I wonder what the next craze will be.?? The dressers will still be here but what will we do to them..?? From the looks of things in magazines etc.. the whole Shabby movement is going out the window.. How will we update these pieces from here if we have gouged and distressed them so that the only thing they can be is Shabby?
