Before We have had this desk in our storage for about six months. It was time. Time for a makeover!
After
This desk turned out to be
a-mazing.
It is chunky yet the extended legs provide a delicate feature.
The backside of the desk has some nice beadboard features.
I think I mentioned I was an eyeing another typewriter.
And her she is in all of her greyness!
I needed grey.
I think she is lovely.
We added a nice contrast with the new white and brushed silver knobs and pulls.
This desk has nice features on both the front side and the back side. That is always something to watch for when picking a desk.

Aw...Melanie- I KNEW that was going to be beautiful and you did not disappoint. I love it...love it...did I say I loved it? I think I told you that I learned to type on one of those Royal typewriters...all the letters were covered with blank caps so you had to learn to type of memorization. To this day, I am a good typist-in spite of being my teacher's NOT PET. I was a thorn in her side-cuz I was always making the kids laugh...and I was her star typist...she hated me-lol The feeling was mutual. Hugs- Diana

Would you be willing to share some secrets? I have a desk that needs a makeover. I have done one in the past but I don't think I really know what I'm doing. The one I have is pine I think with an orangish finish. I'm wondering if I need to strip it down in order to paint it, or if I just need to do some light sanding? Also what type of paint do you usually use? Oil,latex, other? and what finish for furniture. Do you brush it on? If so what type of brush? Thanks so much for any tips you might share. Love the shabby sanded black finish on this stunning desk makeover. I am currently redoing my massive steel desk and work area to look less daunting and more organized and friendly. Love your work!
This desk turned out just lovely. I have a similar desk that was my grandpa's that I've been planning to paint black ... this gets me excited about it. :)

What a lovely makeover. Love the distressed finish!
Great job refinishing and even better photos. It's not easy getting black yo look that good in photography. Just love the look of distressed black furniture. On Black I prefer more distressing like yours. Keep up the great work!

This desk turned out beautiful and looks wonderful in the space. I am amazed at how close in shape it is to the desk that I posted about recently...called Adventures of A Desk. Check it out.

great job on the desk hard to imagine it is the same piece ;). so got a vintage typewriter at a thrift store $2.50.so where do you get the ribbon ?
the desk looks so much more expensive now compared to its woody state. I love all the details you did, just the right amount of distressing.
